Monstrous Wristgear: Panerai reissues Mare Nostrum at SIHH 2010

Every watch lover from across the globe knows that the event to watch out for each year is the Basel World; which promises the very best and latest in Wristgear each and every time. But the SIHH (Salon Internationalde la Haute Horlogerie) is also pretty impressive with its line up of over 19 international watch brands making their presence felt at the event. While JLC, IWC, GP, Cartier and Richard Mille are pretty well known and will mostly hog the limelight, it is Panerai that has stolen the thunder as the event just gets underway.

Panerai has reissued the 1943 classic of Mare Nostrum and it has mimicked the original almost in every sense of the word. The Mare Nostrum of the modern world (PAM 300) might be technically a bit more sophisticated than the original but its look and size have been altered barely. While we still do not know who exactly will sport this 52mm monstrosity (not so much in style but in sheer size), it is pretty obvious that most men around will not sport the Mare Nostrum just for its giant appearance.

Despite that drawback, it still looks cool with the traditional canvas strap that is a throwback to the original and for those who love the rare and limited edition straps, this is a definite hit. With an estimated price tag of $36,000, it is certain that Panerai is not going to make a loss on this classic accessory!
