David Dow and Jim Neeley Launch Wisecracker, Chic Luxury Luggage

David Dow and Jim Neeley make a marvelous team. In the past 20 years or so they have done a lot together, right from building houses in third-world countries to crafting home textiles and furnishings. In short, they have put their considerable business acumen and creative talents to good use. The duo from the Bay Area have launched this season Wisecracker, a luxury luggage brand that they describe as ‘quiet chic’.

Both the partners were associated with the Mulholland Leathers for the past five years before launching their own business. Their experience in the leather goods industry will come in handy in their own enterprise. Their debut collection has 16 pieces for men and 5 pieces for women. They said that the designs of all the pieces in the collection are very clean and understated. It is meant for the savvy, sophisticated traveler who values quality and design but wants to stay under the radar in terms of logos.

The bags are made from calf skin basically, often in combination with Limonta nylon. The shapes range from classic totes and satchels to sleek A-frame flight bags and trolleys. The name of the brand has been taken from the book, Wisecracker: The Life and Times of William Haines. The bags are produced through Dallas-based Barrington and the prices range from $380 to $1,625.
