Walt Disney World is targeting a new segment of customers apart from kids. Their new initiative Best Friends pet resort which is scheduled to open on August 27th is not for kids but for dogs. It will not offer just boarding for dogs but bed time stories and a water park for dogs.
The resort will have a total space of about 50,000 square feet half of which will be out doors. It will have rooms to accommodate 270 dogs along with 30 cats and some assorted animals and birds. The standard rates for a night’s stay would be $37. Special services like doggy play group and bed time stories will be charged extra. There are upgrades like vacation villas with outdoor patios or a 226 square feet luxury suite with a private outdoor play yard and personal pet concierge. Cats have a choice of two or four storey condos.
Pets can stay at the resort for the day also without overnight stay. The owners can drop by to visit or play with their pets on the way to the park from their hotel. Deb Bennetts, the spokes woman for Best Friends, which operates over 40 pet-boarding facilities all over US said that the owners want to see and interact with their pets even when they are visiting the park or else they would board them at home.
