Marriott International has very aggressively expanded its portfolio of hotel worldwide. It has even taken the co-branding route to increase its reach and add variety to its offerings and take up leadership position in certain geographical areas. They have been making a conscious effort to offer the entire range of brands in their portfolio to every region and market. It is under that strategy that they have opened their first Courtyard property in Indonesia. The occasion became important as the opening marked another milestone in their journey to become the top player in the hospitality industry. The total number of hotels in the chain has hit the 900 mark. The new hotel will be called Courtyard Bali Nusa Dua. The luxury property is located on the southern coast of Bali which attracts greater number of tourists to its fabulous beaches. The property has been built by a local hospitality company called PT Peninsula Bali Resort.
It is a beautiful property with modern luxurious amenities. The owners have entered into a long term management agreement with Marriott International as they required their expertise both in terms of service and marketing to flourish in a competitive Bali market. Marriott is also taking the project rather seriously as it is their first Courtyard property in Indonesia and would like to create a positive impact with the luxury brand and differentiate itself from other competing chains operating in Indonesia and Bali in particular. They have given this responsibility to Philip Spencer who has been appointed the General Manager of the Courtyard Bali Nusa Dua. The modern luxurious property has a total of 250 guest rooms including suites. The accommodation is luxurious and contemporary at the same time. Every room has 32 inch LCD panel flat screen televisions with all the important international channels available.
The opening of the new hotel was a grand affair. It is an important part of Marriott’s international strategy as they want their luxury brand to get a significant presence in every market. Janis Milham, vice president and global brand manager for Courtyard by Marriott Global was co-coordinating the opening event and was very excited about entering into the Indonesian market as it would give them a strong base in the entire region. Courtyard as a brand is in the expansion mode and 25% of its pipeline consists of upcoming properties outside the US. It is important for the brand to expand quickly so that it can leverage the scale to be in a position to offer more to its guests and yet be more profitable. The economies in Asia are the fastest growing in the world today and have been witnessing a quantum jump in the number of business travelers. Courtyard has firm plans of entering several new markets in the near future. Cambodia, Romania and Jamaica are some of the countries where they will have a presence sooner than later. Marriott International as a whole expects to hit the 1,000 hotel mark covering over 40 countries by the year 2013. In the mean time you can check out the Nusa Dua when you are in Bali the next time.
