Talitha Leather is not one of those traditional businesses that are driven by the profit motive. The founder of the company, Nate Bagley was deeply moved and inspired by the bible stories and that is why he named the business after the sickly girl who was saved by Jesus after she was given up for dead by her parents. The company is based in Portland, OR.
Bagley had worked as a case manager for a homeless youth organization. He was close to a friend who worked for a shoe store and it gave him the opportunity to learn the leather working techniques. Both of them got together and set up some basic tools in a basement. They worked diligently on their skills and over the years they have developed a full line of men’s and women’s accessories including bags, purses and leather jewelry made from materials sourced from the west coast.
International Justice Mission is the main beneficiary of a portion of profits from the sturdy bags. The profits also enables Bagley to offer his services as mental health counselor to the poor and needy of Portland. The prices start from $14 for leather jewelry and the price band for the handmade messenger bags is $200 to $500. And now you know that if you buy one of their products you will be indirectly helping a needy person.
