One of the largest hotel companies in the world, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. is all set to make a grand appearance in the hospitality industry in India, as the country’s biggest hotel chain, ITC Ltd., has announced that, it would act as the exclusive franchise for Starwood Hotels & Resorts in India. ITC Ltd., already runs more than 75 hotels in India and with this latest announcement, the company has now re-negotiated this multi billion dollar deal and will also bring the Starwoods Luxury Collection brand to India for the very first time.
The very first recorded collaboration between ITC Ltd and Starwood Hotels & Resorts was in the year 1979, when these two entities enabled the launch of Sheraton Hotels in India. On the other hand, Starwood has stated that, apart from the luxury collection that the company is bringing to India via ITC, it is also planning to open several of its brands in India, all by itself in the next two years. Furthermore, the President of Starwood Hotels & Resorts, Asia Pacific Unit, Miguel Ko has said that, the company has planned increases the its presence in the Indian markets with the number of hotels to be brought up to 38 in the next five years.
As per the deal between ITC and Starwood Hotels & Resorts, ITC will be solely responsible for the day-to-day operations and management for the seven hotels from Starwood from its Luxury Collection and meanwhile Starwood would take care of international marketing including the hotel currently known as ITC Hotel Maurya Sheraton and Towers.
