The new Russian Billionaires like to arrive on the scene with a bang. The 38 year old Andrey Melnichenko is no different. He got Philippe Starck to design a super yacht for him. The 119 meter long super yacht has a distinctly sci fi submarine look that is off to do battle and not one meant for the leisure of the rich. The unusual exterior design makes it different from any other leisure vessel on the seas.
All the numbers associated with the vessel are big. The cost of making the super yacht – $300 million. The number of crew required to run the yacht – 35. The power of its engines – 24,000 hp. Top speed of the yacht – 24 knots. Cost of filling the gas tank – $500,000. Annual cost of running the yacht – $20 million. So on and so forth. The numbers are so mind boggling that some of the companies involved in constructing the unique sea beast went bankrupt.
The interiors are equally if not more ostentatious and over the top. The master suite is all of 2,583 sq ft and is wrapped in bomb proof 44 mm glass. It can be accessed by a silver plated staircase with a finger print scanner at the door. There are Baccarat crystal tables, sting ray upholstered walls and hand stitched calf skin paneling.
