The Chelsea Football Club owner Roman Abramovich is rapidly gaining a reputation for throwing lavish New Year parties. In 2009, he spent £3million treating guests such as Orlando Bloom and Kanye West to performances by Prince, Gwen Stefani and Beyonce. The bash, this year was undoubtedly even more extravagant with a guest-list of Hollywood’s biggest names and the world’s most popular band providing the entertainment. It was, without doubt, the most glamorous New Year’s Eve party on the planet.
The bash, held on the Caribbean island of St Barts, is estimated to have cost the billionaire £5million. Black Eyed Peas gave a stirring performance. Big stars including Salma Hayek and Demi Moore threw themselves into the New Year spirit. Ironically, everyone seemed to enjoy the bash except Abramovich himself. He moved around with a distinctly bored look on his face.
The Russian billionaire threw open the gates to his £58million, 70-acre estate close to Governor Beach on the Caribbean island for his guests. The estate which once belonged to the Rockefellers boasts a range of swimming pools, pavilions and Balinese bungalows with ocean views. Guests were flown into St Barts by helicopter. A dazzling firework display was launched from a yacht to ensure the partygoers saw in 2011 in style.
