The Robert F. Kennedy Community School scheduled to open very soon is a class apart. It is all set to open in Los Angeles next month. It is bound to be amongst the toppers of any list of most expensive schools. The final price tag of the school is going to be close to $578 million and that would make it the most expensive school ever. Apart from the cost the school has a historical significance that it was formerly the Ambassador Hotel where RFK, who was a presidential contender was assassinated in 1968.
The feature, amenities and facilities the school boasts of justifies the cost. It will have fine art murals, a marble memorial for RFK, a manicured public park, a state of the art swimming pool and preserved pieces of the original hotel. There are always some people who feel this kind of cost is not justified for a school. But the fact remains that the children learn better in more pleasant surroundings.
The school could see the light of day after going through 15 year long litigation with historic preservationists and Donald Trump who wanted the site to build the world’s tallest building. It is now hoped that the school’s fine architecture and interiors will ensure the students enjoy studying in the best of surroundings.
