Few days back we had discussed the upcoming auction of Princess of Diana’s engagement dress. Guess what, it has been sold for four times of estimated price at the Kerry Taylor Auction. This dress was worn by the Princess to a black-tie event at Goldsmith’s Hall in the City in March of 1981 after the news of her engagement with Prince Charles. The dress brought 192,000 pounds.
The famous dress that marked the transformation of Diana and speculated some controversy was designed by Elizabeth and David Emanuel. Emanuel describes her as stunning like a movie star. Kerry Taylor Auction has been known as the leading specialist auction house for antique, vintage, fashion and textiles.
Made in black taffeta the dress provoked a mild outrage due to its plunging neckline. It was believed to have been lost until Emanuel found it covered in plastic in their garage. Many bidders had bid on the dress from all over the world and the competition was intense. The dress was sold to Fudacion Museo de la Moda, a Chilean Museum.
Many other dresses belonging to the princess were sold including the oyster pink chiffon blouse worn when she appeared in Vogue and calico toile for the Royal Wedding Gown.
