Every year at the Oscars, the organisers were kind enough to make sure that everyone, even those who weren’t fortunate enough to win an Oscar, did not go home empty handed. Infact kind does not even begin to express their gregariousness. The Oscar goody bags were the ultimate. Freebies included things like safari holidays and diamonds worth more than £60,000! Yes, that is right, those who can already afford to buy things get it for free!
But with the clampdown by tax authorities and the recession, celebrities became a bit uncomfortable receiving these luxurious gifts right under all that media glare. So the organisers have found a more discreet way. Called ‘gifting suites’, the nominees will wake up to a trip to the Maldives, a stay in a luxury hotel, designer clothes and jewellery worth £46,000. The thing about these suites is that they are run separately to the Academy Awards and have no link to the official ceremony.
The hotels hosting the stars include the prestigious W and The London among others. GBK hosted a two-day event at the W Hotel where gifts included a £3,600 Caribbean trip and a seven-night holiday at the Zamani Retreat Kempinski in Zanzibar, worth a whopping £18,000. Adrien Broody was the lucky man to get all this. Other celebrities also got their mouth watering goodies. Well I do not understand how this is more discrete.
