A unique onboard bidding competition has been conducted by Emirates in collaboration with luxury house Montblanc. The bidding helped to donate $90,000 to charities, the Emirates Airline Foundation and The Smile Train. They are dedicated to provide quality, safe and loving environment for needy children around the world. The bids are made on timepieces which are created in limited numbers exclusively for Emirates from the Montblanc TimeWriter Collection. The package was available for all the customers’ onboard Emirates flights. The starting bid was US$45,000.
The collector’s watch features a Montblanc two-tone dial in 18 carat red gold which is exclusively created to commemorate the 190th anniversary of the chronograph. It was open to all passengers in July 2011 and concluded with winning bid of US $90,000 in December 2011. The winner was informed in early 2012.
All the proceeds from the promotion will be divided equally between nonprofit organization, the Emirates Airline Foundation, that aims to improve children life and to The Smile Train, which provides medical training, palate surgery and surgery for cleft lip. Emirates Vice President John Sime said that the partnership of Montblanc and Emirates reinforces their commitment to charitable causes and they are proud to dedicate the donation for the cause.
There were eighty seven bids to win the prize that includes a unique watch, a trip for two to Geneva. The package includes a two-night stay at the luxurious Montblanc Chate and First Class Emirates flights. The prize includes a first-class trip onboard Emirates to Le Locle which dwells in a comfortable position in the mountainous Swiss Jura and a home for watch making industry of Switzerland since 1705.
