Today’s social environment has become so self centered that it is difficult to trust anybody. It is no surprise that some people trust their pets more than a family member. We have seen instances where folks have left their fortunes for their pets. Recently another such story came to light. Andrew Nimmo Smith, a millionaire lawyer who passed away last year left behind 25,000 pounds for his pet cats.

Andrew must have been an animal lover. Apart from leaving a part of his $7.4 million fortune for his pets he also left over $30,000 each for the Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home and the Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Andrew’s 18th century Haining House mansion is being turned in to a visitor attraction by a trust as per his wish. The charitable and generous gestures made by him in his will has been highly appreciated by the residents of the village.

There are several more gestures of charity in his will. He has gifted his 1.5 million pound home in Selkirk to the Borders town. He has also distribute over 140,000 pounds to other charities. Only the balance of his fortune has been distributed amongst his family members and some of his friends.
