Margo’s Pizzeria Sells the Most Expensive Pizza with White Truffles and Gold Leaf

We have come across another of world’s most expensive items. Pizza is a very common feature of the Maltese diet but a pizza being sold in Valletta is certainly not for common people. A gourmet pizzeria is selling a pizza with white truffles and 24-carat gold leaf and buffalo mozzarella over a thin, traditional crust – for €1,800. The idea for the pizza first came to Claude Camilleri, owner of Margo’s Pizzeria.

Claude said that while nosing the truffle we felt that it would be nice to use it on a pizza and bring out the amazing flavor of truffle. We thought of adding gold leaf to it just to make the concept vulgar and rich. The pizzaiolo Giovanni Staiano, went ahead with the plan and created the exclusive and expensive pizza. Claude confirmed that the special pizza has already been ordered twice by a local hotelier. He had to be persuaded not to add tomatoes to the golden truffle pizza as the acidity would kill the taste of the truffles.

Margo’s is making all efforts to get a mention in the Guinness Book of World Records for selling the most expensive commercially-available pizza in the world. This special pizza has to be ordered a week in advance. Though, it is ironical that the most expensive pizza doesn’t generate any profits.
