The art of blogging has matured over the years. The blogs have grown big and specialised and cater to niche audiences. With time they have transformed into professional and commercial entities that use the same promotional and marketing tools like any other media. We Make Money Not Art is something of an exception as it has resisted so far the temptation to completely commercialise its operations. They discourage PR people and agencies to approach them. They want their growth to be a natural process.
They have grown in any case. You may call the growth slow but it has been steady and it is through good old word of mouth that they have become a large community of art lovers. They visit a lot of art galleries and attend all conferences related to art. There coverage is almost informal with lot of intimate details. At times you almost prefer seeing things through their eyes. We Make Money Not Art has been nominated for the Decadent Art category at the LuXplosion 2010. Their dedicated followers will be delighted as it is not the first time that they have received an award.
We Make Money Not Art received the Webby Awards for two consecutive years for the year 2006 and 2007. They have also received the Mega award. The awards do motivate them to do better and works as the perfect form of encouragement. But they are definitely not in this for the awards. They continue their work with the same sincerity. They cover art and design events and always take a lot of pictures and post them on the blog. They interview creative people, and document all their findings in order to share them with their readers. They are obviously doing it for the love of art and not for the money. They can be followed on Facebook and Twitter.
