OpenTravel was founded in 1999 as a not-for-profit trade association by travel companies themselves to create electronic message structures that will facilitate communication between the disparate systems in the global travel industry. They have under one umbrella, companies representing every imaginable sector in the travel industry from airlines, car rental firms, hotels, cruise lines, railways, leisure suppliers, service providers, tour operators, travel agencies, technology companies and distributors among others, facilitating electronic exchange of business information among all these sectors.
Valyn Perini, as executive director of the company oversees the operations of the organization, which involves developing and executing strategies to reach the goal of standardizing electronic distribution of traveler information. Valyn needless to say has done a terrific job at it and this isn’t surprising, considering the rich experience she has gained in the past, having more than fifteen years of experience in hospitality and travel operations, sales and marketing, systems, consulting, and software development.
She has worked in sales, catering, operations and systems for big names such as InterContinental, Westin and Swissotel. One of the biggest consultancies in the world, PricewaterhouseCoopers hired her services as a hospitality technology consultant, which brought her into close contact with cruise lines, hotel companies, technology vendors and even the federal government. She was also the director of product strategy for Newmarket International, a software development firm that specializes in creating applications for the hotel industry. You can follow her on Twitter.
