What do you say about a living legend, because that is exactly what Ralph Lauren is. The man created a company and created such a formidable brand name for itself that become iconic in the entire world. When you think of Ralph Lauren, you think of luxury and that is exactly what any marketer of luxury dreams of attaining for his own brand. The Polo Ralph Lauren clothing line had its humble beginnings in 1967 when Lauren opened a necktie store where he also sold ties of his own design, under the label “Polo.”
His great designs soon won him COTY Award for his menswear line in 1970. Since then there was no looking back for him. He expanded into women’s apparel and brought out a line of women’s suits that were tailored in a classic men’s style. 1972 became a watershed moment for him when Polo’s famous short sleeve mesh shirt with the Polo logo was launched and immediately became a rage. We still count for his shirts when we want a sure route to comfort and style. According to the Financial Times, his firm had revenues of around $5 billion for the fiscal year 2009. Need I say more?
