LuXplosion 2010: Karl Lagerfeld Nominated For The Dolce Vita Experts Category

Karl Lagerfeld would be embarking on the 60th year of his dynamic career in the fashion industry, this year. Way back in 1952 Karl moved to Paris from Hamburg, Germany, where he was born and started off as a draftsman for fashion houses. Since then he has not just grown but diversified into every field of the fashion industry and is considered a living legend. His first design job was with Pierre Balmain. He then moved to Jean Patou where he designed two haute couture collections a year for five years.

This was just the beginning but even as a 25 year old designer his clothes were appreciated by critics as having a kind of understated chic, elegance, and just plain ‘class’. To increase the scope of his work Karl launched himself as a freelance designer in the early 1960s. During this phase of his career he worked for Mario Valentino, Repetto, Monoprix and Tiziani. He also worked occasionally worked as a costume designer for theatrical productions. For his contribution to the fashion industry Karl Lagerfeld has been nominate in the Dolce Vita Experts category at the LuXplosion 2010.

Lagerfeld is also a photographer. He photographs advertising campaigns for the houses under his direction (Chanel, Fendi and his eponymous line) every season. Late last year he was roped in by Volkswagen to act in their new TV commercial. He does some editorial work for Harper’s Bazaar, Numéro and the Russian and German editions of Vogue. Signé Chanel, a French reality show broadcast in 2005 was based on Karl Lagerfeld. He has signed an exclusive deal with Dubai Infinity Holdings and will be designing limited edition homes on Isla Moda, the world’s first dedicated fashion island, set in the iconic development, The World. Karl is not slowing down and we will keep on seeing more exciting things from him in the future.

  • London is such a happening city and is so stulimating! Makes me want to hop on a plane for a visit across the pond. Love the Coke bottle, I bet it could even make Pepsi drinkers think twice about switching over:)
