The 2006 film ‘The Holiday’ made the concept of trading homes for a holiday famous. Taking the idea forward and making the experience hassle free is Luxe Home Swap, a Web site that facilitates temporary home exchanges. The London based site was founded by Ben Wosskow and his sister Debbie in January 2010. They claim that they started the site because they felt that the existing home exchange web sites and the sector as a whole needed overhauling.
Luxe Home Swap which has already acquired over 1,000 members has tried to keep things really simple and uncomplicated. The basic criterion for a membership of the site is the ownership of a ‘stylish’ home. They have purposefully kept the definition of ‘stylish’ relatively loose. There are no limitations on size and you can find six-bedroom chalet in Switzerland as well as a one-bedroom apartment in New York City. A certain level of quality is a must. The team at the site keeps a watch on the listings and removes those that don’t meet the quality standards.
It is not a problem though, as the members over the year has learnt to self select and generally don’t list homes that don’t fit the site’s standard. The membership of the site costs $159 a year with no limits on the number of swap you manage to execute within the year. The swaps in themselves don’t cost anything and no money is exchanged. The site offers the members opportunity to interact without revealing their numbers or email id. Facebook is also used to locate mutual connections with other members. The site also advises members to get adequate insurance coverage before executing a swap. The members are happy with the experience and starting to use the option more often.
