Lanvin Enters the Affordable Luxury Market

Can fashion be affordable, and luxurious at the same time? The answer seems to be a reluctant “yes”, for it is not difficult to design great clothes, and keep them within the affordable range as well. The only issue with such a move is, that fashion loses out on its exclusivity when it is accessible to the masses. When the idea is to stand apart from the crowd, it should also not be available for the crowds or the masses.

However, Lanvin, the venerable French house of fashion has teamed up with H & M to launch the Lanvin for H & M collection, which includes almost 80 designs. The prices range from $9.9 to $349, and include holiday wear for both men and women. Lanvin is famous for its $550 sneakers and $3,000 gowns and usually targets the celebrities in Hollywood or first ladies.

This move seems to be an attempt to reach out to the larger pret market as well. Lanvin’s creative director Alber Elbaz has for once chosen not to ignore the affordable luxury trend and has plunged into the band wagon of creating mass produced fashion like mainstream brands such as J. Crew, Ann Taylor, Old Navy, Forever 21 and Banana Republic.
