Airport lounges offer a semblance of peace and comfort in the midst of a bustling airport. However, lounges across the world differ greatly in quality and comfort. To help frequent fliers access the best in the business, Guidebook publisher Frommers has come up with an extensive list of the best airport lounges of the world. Topping this list is the Wing airport lounge at the Hong Kong International Airport.
Run by Cathay Pacific Airways, the Wing is a 4,500 square metre facility which houses a library, a noodle bar/restaurant and three bars. There are also “personal living spaces”, complete with a desk, soft chair and seat. Cathay Pacific’s first and business class passengers also have access to individual bath and shower rooms with personal mini-bars.
Taking second place on the Frommers list is Virgin Atlantic’s Upper Class Clubhouse. Located at London’s Heathrow airport, the Virgin Atlantic lounge boasts of a small movie screen, a pool table and a roof garden and cocktail bar. Coming in third was Malaysia Airlines’ Satellite Golden Lounge at Kuala Lumpur. Lufthansa’s First Class Lounge at the Munich airport came in fourth and Japan Airlines’ new international lounges at Tokyo’s Haneda airport grabbed the fifth spot.
Within North America, Emirates’ lounge at New York’s JFK airport came away with the top honours. The lounge has shower facilities and passengers can even avail of a relaxing massage. The only US airline to figure on the list was the Continental, which runs the Presidents Club at Houston’s Bush Intercontinental Airport.
