Hilton Worldwide has set its sights on Delhi. By the end of this year, the international hotel chain is poised to unseat Starwood Hotels & Resorts as the top hospitality group in Delhi. The latter currently owns five luxury hotel properties in Delhi while Hilton owns two such properties – the Hilton Jankapuri and Hilton Garden Inn Saket. However, if everything goes as per schedule, Hilton will be acquiring three more high-end hotels in the Indian capital by 2011-end.
By the second half of 2011, Double Tree by Hilton and the Hilton Garden Inn will be launched in Gurgaon. The latter is part of the tie-up between Hilton and DLF. A third Gurgaon hotel which is currently being developed will also come under Hilton management. And this is just a tip of the iceberg.
According to reports, Hilton has reached the final stages of talks with Delhi realtors Eros Group for acquiring management of three properties which are currently run by the InterContinental Hotels Group. One of these is an InterContinental brand 214-room five-star property. The other two properties are still works in progress. Once complete, they will flash the InterContinental and Holiday Inn brands. However, talk has it that Eros and InterContinental may terminate their contract prematurely. That could leave the road wide open for Hilton to make its entry.
There is no confirmation on the news yet. However, reports suggest that Hilton and Eros are nearing finalisation. Given the ugly tiff between Hilton and Starwood Hotels last year, the former’s rising fortunes in Delhi will surely be welcomed by the group.
