Daphne Guinness to Dress Up in Barneys’ Window under Project Called Fashion as Art
The social values of the modern society are such that being rich or being an heiress can be leveraged like a talent. It makes you a celebrity and style icon. And the more provocative you are the more the opportunities for you to exploit it commercially. And Daphne Guinness has made all the right moves to become prominent in the fashion world as a fashion icon. She is also known as a collector of haute couture. In fact a lot of Alexander McQueen’s work that will be showcased in the exhibition Savage Beauty will come from Daphne’s collection.
Daphne Guinness has now teamed up with Barneys for a very intimate window display project. The passersby on the Madison Avenue can see her getting dressed for this year’s Costume Institute Gala. Her agreement with Barneys is for a six week project called Fashion as Art. During the period the heiress and style icon will be seen in the famous windows of Barneys on Madison Avenue performance of art pieces for the window shoppers to see. She is known as one of the biggest fans of the British designer Alexander McQueen and for the Met Ball she is expected to select one of his dresses.
Guinness who would be launching a collection soon in collaboration with NARS Cosmetics, would be seen in the Barneys windows first on May 2nd, the day of the Costume Institute party. For the period of the project, when Daphne is not in the window some of her wardrobe will be on display. A short documentary on the life of stylist Isabella Blow will also be played in the window. Since this project is not being broadcast you will have to be in New York and on Madison Avenue to see Guinness in different stages of undress. Make your travel plans accordingly.
