As planned and as reported earlier golf’s Ryder Cup will be hosted by the Celtic Manor Resort of Wales this year. The biennial competition between the best professional players in the U.S. and Europe runs from September 30 to October 3 and all eyes will be watching, if only to see what sort of showing Tiger Woods makes. The preparation for the competition is complete and the Celtic Manor is eagerly awaiting the arrival of the professional golfers.
The Celtic Manor Resort was formerly the Lydia Beynon Hospital and was converted and renovated by Sir Terry Matthews at a cost of $217 million. Apart from the renovation Sir Terry also added to its existing golf course. The resort has three golf courses including the new Twenty Ten golf course that the Ryder cup teams will play on. It has comprehensive golfing facilities including a golf academy, golf shop, driving range, Practice range, a club house with its own bar, restaurant, health club and spa.
The Twenty Ten golf course was built to host the Ryder Cup in 2010 and first opened for play in July 2007. The Celtic Manor resort has a total of 362 rooms and suites with 70 rooms in an adjacent Manor House. They have introduced the “Follow the Footsteps package” to be the first to play on the Twenty Ten Golf course just after the Ryder Cup.
