Carlson and The Rezidor Hotel Group have entered into an agreement between the Formosa International Hotels Corporation (FHIC). Formosa International Hotels Corporation (FHIC) in turn will acquire the Regent luxury hotel business.
FHIC chairman S Steven Pan revealed “”We appreciate the wisdom of Carlson and Rezidor in choosing FIHC, who can focus on pure luxury and ensure the future success of Regent.”
After the acquisition, Regent would return to gateway cities like Hong Kong, Tokyo, Shanghai, New York, London, and Sydney.
They would also have projects in pipeline in places like Abu Dhabi, Doha, Dubrovnik, Kuala Lumpur, Maldives, and Puerto Rico. It would be interesting to see the kind of hotel developments that we would usually see, for it is not always that such acquisitions take place. Considering the volatile economy that we are seeing lately, it is important that acquisitions are seen as friendly instead of unfriendly and hostile.
In this case, Regent group would get a free lease of life and a lessening of the burden, and hence they can go ahead and diversify into areas that they have not ventured earlier. So one could wait and see how the acquisitions would change cities like Hong Kong, Tokyo, Shanghai, New York, London, and Sydney, and also smaller cities like Abu Dhabi, Doha, Dubrovnik, Kuala Lumpur, Maldives, and Puerto Rico.
