It seems that the gamblers got just another reason to visit Cambodia more often, as it witnessed the opening of another luxury casino on 26th February, 2010. The tourism sector of Cambodia took this step to revive the number of tourists as the country experienced a significant fall in the tourism sector after its fall out with Thailand.
Located near the Vietnam border, this casino added to the existing 29 casinos in Cambodia. The revenue figures of the year 2008, brought out by the Ministry of Finance showed that these 29 casinos were able to rake in $19 million alone, but the tiff with Thailand brought about a fall of $2million in the year 2009.
According to the sources, Cambodia invested $100 million in this particular Casino with a hope to pull in larger number of tourists who are interested in gambling more than sight-seeing.
The casino has been named ‘The Titan King Casino’ and the owner, Kith Thieng firmly believes that this casino will change the tourism scene in Cambodia, over night. He also claims that Bavet, the town where the casino is located, has become “much like Las Vegas and Macau.”
