Dr. Roger Revelle’s La Jolla oceanfront home has been listed for sale for the first time after it was built in 1922. Rex Clark and his wife Grace had built it as their summer house. Grace if you remember was the daughter of James Edmund Scripps who was the founder of the Detroit Evening News. In 1947 the oceanfront home passed to the Clarks’ daughter and her husband, the renowned scientist and scholar , Roger Revelle

The home became the venue for frequent entertaining of guests including Eleanor Roosevelt, Jonas Salk and many Nobel laureates. Revelle also took the initiative to bring in world-class scientists to UCSD which resulted in making San Diego the home for many science and research laboratories. Revelle who died in 1991 won numerous awards and a presidential appointment. Vice President Gore became enamoured of his work in the 1960s and took on the challenge of climate change as his personal mission.

The oceanfront home which has been listed for $14 million is 4,165 square-foot home . The 5-bedroom estate is built on a 18,900 square foot walled lot and offers stunning views of the Pacific Ocean and the Whispering Sands Beach. The beach front measures 115 feet. The property has many features like a 350 square foot lanai, a detached one bedroom guest house, a large living room with a fireplace, a dining room, a break fast room and a sun room ideal for use as an office.
