Michelle Rogers, an artist of Irish descent has displayed a poster beside New York Stock Exchange and this poster is the best artistic depiction of Wall Street financial crisis which occurred in 2008 but whose effects are felt even today. The urban poster project is aptly entitled “My God, My God…The 3 Stock Traders”. The expression on the faces of three stock traders says it all.
Ever since the dawn of human intelligence art has been one of the strong modes of expression of the thought and the world condition. The early cave drawings give us a glimpse of life back in stone ages. Human progress from those days has been astounding but human life is still fraught with problems and crisis. Recession and financial crisis of recent times have had great affect on many people and especially stock traders were one of the first people who saw their life earnings disappear on the screens.
Michelle Rogers has painted stock traders looking upwards in a state of panic towards the screen and the painting has been inspired by Venetian master Titian’s famous painting of faces looking up to the heavens. In artists own words, “I want the Wall Street guys to know, that they are not the masters of the universe and to accept that they have caused great pain in the world and they need to make it right”. This hard hitting project has been exhibited at 53rd Venice Biennale.
