How do you pick your luxury hotels when setting out on a vacation by the sea? For many, big windows and a fantastic view are the clinchers. Recently, travel website Frommers.com released a list of 12 coastal hotels with fantastic views. Here is an overview
1. Pacific Sands Beach Resort
Located in Tofino on Canada’s Vancouver Island, the hotel offers bewitching views of the Cox Bay. January to May is ideal for watching storms through the room windows. There are hot tubs and fireplaces, with some rooms offering a full-equipped kitchen. Room rates start at $149 per night.
2. La Zebra
Willing to shell out upwards of $355 per night? Book a room, suite or cabana in La Zebra, in laidback Tulum, Mexico. If you have had your fill of the sea for the day, relax in the outdoor, terrace-top soaking tub.
3. Post Ranch Inn
39 rooms and two private houses at Post Ranch Inn in Big Sur, California are set amidst incredible scenery. You will find beautiful views of the ocean and rocky cliffs. But these are luxury hotels, so the charges are steep. Expect to pay anywhere between $1,125 and $2,285.
4. Inn by the Sea
This beautiful property stands on Maine’s Cape Elizabeth area. Choose from rooms, suites and cottages, and ask for one with an ocean-view. The two-storey loft cottages and deluxe beach cottages are the pick of the lot. Cottages cost upwards of $289 per night.
5. Ihlani JW Marriott Resort and Spa
Set on the west coast of Oahu, this 17-storey, 387-room resort stands on the hillside. The ocean-view and deluxe ocean-view rooms overlook the Waianae coastline. Rates start from $745 per night.
6. WaterColor Inn and Resort
Located at Florida’s Santa Rosa Beach, the WaterColor Inn and Resort offers spacious rooms with a view of the Gulf of Mexico at rates upwards of $286 a night. Designed by David Rockwell, this is a study in how well-designed coastal hotels can be.
7. Bodega Bay Lodge
This Bodega Bay property offers breathtaking views of the rocky and sandy Sonoma County coastline. Here for the view? Then book one of the Ocean Club Suites with private terraces. Prices start from $454 per night.
8. The Chelsea
Located along the Jersey Shore in Atlantic City, this 20-storey luxury hotel offers some great views; provided you stay in the Chelsea Luxe Tower (prices start from $99 per night). If you don’t manage a booking in the Tower, the rooftop pool offers a brilliant view.
9. Ocean House
They don’t make luxury hotels like this anymore. Following a $141 million makeover, Ocean House has a private beach and offers views as far up as Rhode Island’s Block Island and New York’s Montauk. Expect to pay upwards of $260 a night.
10. Atlantica Hotel and Marina Oak Island
This Nova Scotia property boasts of 13 two-bedroom beachfront chalets with a barbecue pit, a stone fireplace and a private deck. Or you could rent an ocean-view room at rates starting from $99. Naturally, the chalets cost more.
This Lincoln City hotel recently got a makeover. The 141 rooms offer Jacuzzis, fireplaces and most of them offer magnificent views of the Oregon coast. Room rates start from $111 a night. Try to book one with an ocean view and a private balcony.
12. The Helmsley Sandcastle Hotel
This three-storey hotel stands on Lido Beach in Sarasota, Florida and offers views of the Gulf of Mexico’s white sand beaches and blue waters. Prices for the Gulf-view rooms with shared patios start from $162 a night.
